My wife just made me do something spontaneous. We were at Staples and she saw me looking at computer keyboards. She knows that I am at my keyboard a lot and anything I can do to make me more effective, she’s for — so much so that sheusually pushes me into it. I’m glad she did for two reasons….
One – I was stuck in analysis paralysis about it.
Two – I really like this keyboard. It is a Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 keyboard and mouse. It is one those ergonomic types — though not too radically curved. It is a lot more comfortable to type on – especially for a big handed/ wide body person like me. The mouse is nice and big too — but, real accurate.
I boughtmine at Staples for about $99 minus a $10 dollar mail-in rebate. However, you can get it on Amazonfor about $20 less – round numbers. At this point for me, it would not be effective to take thetime to pack it all up, drive it back, return it, come back home, order it, and wait a day or two (sorry, just justifying this to myself).
Thanks, honey, for keeping me moving forward!
Side Note: My laptop, an HP Pavilion zd8000, has a little utility (BTTRAY) to show an indication on-screenfor when you turn on andoff the Caps Lock and Num Lock button. The keyboard comes with a driver that does the same thing (and looks much better), so I wanted to get rid of the old indicator. Unfortunanlty, the old indicator (for some goofy reason)is tied to the Bluetooth driver utility that MUST be loaded! I found a fix – on Dell’s website of all places. So, as a public service for the next person that goes on the hunt for this, here is what I did:
Create a .reg file with the following content, and double click on it.
—- snip —-
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General]
“KeyIndication”=dword:00000000
—- snip —-
Or, you can manually hunt for this thing in RegEdit and fix it yourself (which is what I did).

[...] I got myself a Bluetooth dongle for the PC this week. Problem is, the Widcomm Bluetooth stack pops up an annoying little window every time you push the Caps Lock or Num Lock key… This is how to get rid of it. Thanks to Jeffrey W. Cox for finding this page on the Dell site (of all places) that talks about getting rid of the intrusion. [...]
