For example, what can you control in a Membership drive?  You can&#039;t *make* people join a program, but you can make sure that you invite them.  If you figure out that it takes, on average, 10 invitations to get 1 new member, the goal is to make at least 10 invitations, because that is what you can control.

Setting a goal of &quot;10 new members&quot; leaves your success in the hands of others.  Setting a goal of &quot;Inviting 100 people to become new members&quot; leaves your success squarely in your hands.</description>
