Well, as you can see below, I didn’t get the Palm Pre. I still like it for many of the reasons I wrote below…

But….

As I also wrote in a previous post – there has to be * value * to make updating and moving worthwhile. My Treo does everything I need and keeps me very productive – making the $200+ cost to upgrade hard to swallow at this time. That plus some downfalls I knew about (and learned today) confirm my choice of status.

A lady in the airport was nice enough to talk to me about hers. She said the Internet is great. The display is great. The form factor is great (though she did comment that the slide open / close feels cheap – a common comment I’ve read). But, no emoticons. (Wow, Palm, you gotta be kidding me!) Battery life is poor and every picture she has sent is blurry.

Productivity moral of the story (I know you don’t monitor my blog for Palm Pre reviews) – ‘value’ needs to be a big factor in everything. Changes. To Do’s. Life.

think twice. battery life is about the same as my treo 650 & 750. good for a day. running EAS all day long. receiving about 100 – 150 emails a day. probably 30-60 minutes of talk time.
as for the emoticons, I hear that there’s an WebOS update coming out on July22 that should add back the emoticons.
pictures – better than my Sony 5MP camera. it helps to clean the lens occasionally, but in reality, I just stick the phone in my pocket and deal with the pocket lint. same as with my treo.
as for the $200 entry tag, can’t help you there. that’s a hard decision. But I can tell you that I’m happy to have made the transition.
for me, I would like to see a dedicated Facebook app. but that’s really a LIKE, not a NEED.
good luck with whichever device you choose. Aloha.

I bought the Pre last week and I haven’t had the blurry picture problem at all. All my pictures have been nice and clear. Maybe oils from her fingers and dust have created a light film over her camera lens? If I’m not watching TV while simultaneously talking on the phone for 3 hours, the battery lasts from about 7 am when I unplug it from the charger to midnight when I plug it back in and I constantly send messages from facebook, AIM, yahoo, and SMS throughout the day. Just to give you an idea of how many messages, within the first two days of my billing cycle, I’d sent 1,217 text messages.

Many thanks for the comments and feedback – glad to hear that battery life is compareable to the Treo and that Palm is keeping on top of things!
