Today, I remembered that sometime back during the Beta of Office 2007, someone wrote something about doing a complete blog entry using Word 2007.

So, I opened the help and typed in “Blog.” Wah-Lah, there was a complete and very useful tutorial on how to blog, or, post directly into WordPress using Word 2007. This even includes selecting the category (which it grabbed from my WordPress site), and adding pictures!

This makes blogging a piece of cake!!! In the past, I had to:

Write my blog entry in a text editor like TextPad (Because, if I did it in Word, then paste that into WordPress’ editor, the extra control characters would blow things up.)

Hopefully remember to spell check!!!

Copy / paste the text to WordPress.

Format.

Prep and upload any pictures to a photo hosting site, or my ftp site.

Link those in.

Publish.

Now, I can do all of this in Word (and have the convenience of the spell and grammar checker!), then it “Publish.” It transfers it all up. This is great!

Kudos to Microsoft! However, why didn’t I know about this months ago? As my friend Blake wrote awhile back, Microsoft really needs to promote this stuff! Make sure people know about this stuff! Get people excited about it! This is the kind of stuff that will keep Microsoft going!

My blog, like many others (every other, I’m sure), gets a ton of SPAM shot at its comments section. So, awhile back I installed Spam Karma 2 (SK2) by Dr. Dave. It eliminated the SPAM, which was great. But, it also eliminated my ability to moderate comments, which was bad. I looked a few times for a solution to this. I would find tons of information out there on SK2, but, no answers – until today.

Today, discouraged that I might have to uninstall SK2, I searched again, and * happened * upon a Plug In for SK2 by Peter Westwood called SK2 – Moderate Plugin. It does exactly what I needed; it enforces the original WordPress administration settings, including the approval of comments! I’m a happy camper (blogger) again.

Two points here. One, well, is more of a thanks – thanks Peter for the add-in! Two, everyday, literally everyday, we are dealing with more and more information — which is great. But, finding what you need in that haystack – that’s currently “bad.”

Just some random thoughts:

> Brian at Watershead Studio’s WordPress Email Notification Plugin is way cool and gets a big thumbs up! I’m looking forward to the next version!

> Microsoft’s Windows 2003 Server – well – I’ll be nice for now and say that the jury is still out on this one. I had to vacate my old Linux webserver, so I decided – especially being the Microsoft proponent that I am – to go with a Windows Server. It’s been a little painful — mainly with things that I guess were really designed to Linux. The developers of those tools, and Microsoft, all profess that it will all work, but, it’s been an uphill battle.
